Getting started
What is Slashit?
Slashit is a text expander, AI sentence rewriter and clipboard history tool. You save your most-used messages once, then trigger them with a slash command anywhere you type — Gmail, Slack, Notion, your IDE.
Which platforms does it run on?
macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows 10/11. The browser extension adds Gmail-specific magic and is optional.
Do I need to learn a new app or workflow?
No. Slashit reads any text field you can already type into. There's nothing to integrate. Install, write your first snippet, trigger it — that's the whole flow.
How long does setup take?
Under 5 minutes. Watch our quick-start walkthrough on YouTube — link is in the Product menu under "How to use".
Features
What's a placeholder field?
Any spot in your snippet you wrap in braces, like {first_name}. When you trigger the snippet, Slashit prompts you to fill each blank before sending. No more accidental "Hi [First Name]".
How does the AI rewriter work?
Highlight any sentence and hit your rewrite shortcut (default ⌥R). Pick a tone — Professional, Friendly, Concise, Empathetic, Persuasive — and the rewrite drops in. Your original snippet is never overwritten.
Can I customize the trigger character?
Yes. Default is /, but you can use ; or any prefix you like. Set it once in Preferences.
Does clipboard history sync across devices?
On the Pro plan, yes — clipboard entries from the last 30 days sync end-to-end encrypted across all your signed-in devices.
Pricing & plans
Is there a free plan?
Yes. The Free plan covers up to 30 snippets, 24 hours of clipboard history, 5 AI rewrites per day, and one device. No credit card required.
What do paid plans add?
Pro ($9/month) gives you unlimited snippets, 30-day clipboard history, unlimited AI rewrites, multi-device sync and custom shortcuts. Team ($15/user/month) adds shared snippet vaults, roles, audit log and SAML SSO.
Can I change plans anytime?
Yes — upgrade or downgrade from your account settings. Changes prorate; no contracts or annual commits required.
Privacy & security
Where is my snippet data stored?
Locally on your device by default. If you enable sync (Pro+), snippets are end-to-end encrypted with a key derived from your password before they leave your device.
Does Slashit read my keystrokes?
No. Slashit only listens for the trigger character and the few characters that follow. We do not log or transmit anything you type.
Where does the AI rewriter send my text?
By default we use OpenAI for rewrites — text is sent over a TLS connection, never stored on our servers, never used for training. On the Pro plan you can also bring your own API key, in which case the request goes directly to your provider and not through us at all.
Teams
How do shared snippet vaults work?
On the Team plan, an admin creates a vault, invites members and pushes snippets to it. Everyone in the vault gets the snippets in their library; updates from the admin sync automatically.
Can I restrict who can edit shared snippets?
Yes. Roles are Viewer (use only), Editor (can edit existing) and Admin (full control). Audit log shows every change.
